In its resolution of 10 May 2012 on Trade for Change: "The EU Trade and Investment Strategy for the Southern Mediterranean following the Arab Spring revolutions", the European Parliament "asks the Commission to specifically support and promote Fair Trade and organic farming initiatives, in particular in support of smallholders, producers and cooperatives, as a means of integrating sustainable agricultural practices and rural development, while simultaneously developing the supply chain so as to assure European consumers of the products‘ quality, traceability and social and environmental credentials" ".
